Developingthe Advanced Technologies for Solar Energy Utilization
Trainingand Educating Young Scientists and Fostering the Solar Energy Field
Divisionof Solar Energy (DNL16) is one of the major research center of Dalian National Laboratoryfor Clean Energy (DNL). DNL, led by Prof. Can Li, is the first national energylab in China, co-located with the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP),Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). DICP is a world-class institute whichpossesses strong competition abilities for the development of clean energytechnologies. DNL16 conducts research and development inthe fields of solar energy conversion and solar cell technologies, tocontribute towards global sustainable development. We are amulti-disciplinary team of about 10 scientists, 40 Ph.D students and 8 post-docresearch fellows. DNL16 collaborates closely with researchers from DICP andother universities, research organizations and industry, both locally andglobally.
The main research interestin our group is to identify and challenge the key scientific problems forefficient solar to chemical energy conversion, carry out fundamental researchfor better understanding the solar to chemical energy conversion processes by meansof bench-top material synthesis/assembly and various spectroscopic techniques. The ultimate goal of our research is to develop efficient sunlight capturingphotocatalysts and assembly functional integrated photocatalytic systems forefficient solar to energy conversion. Throughout the research activities, particular emphasis will be focused on better understanding the energy transferrelated processes theoretically and experimentally.
Our group is also dedicatedto develop materials and processes for low cost solar cell fabrication. Themain research areas include: High efficiency, low cost thin film solar cellfabrication process development, Thin film nanocrystalline silicon based solarcell research, Nanoscale materials: design, fabrication and application insolar cells, Thin film compound (e.g. CdTe) solar cell development, Nanofabrication for light trapping in solar cells using chemical, electrochemicaland plasma processes and Dye-sensitized solar cells. .
